Our Academic Program

Unique Program Features

Full Time Program (K-10)

Our program is a 5-day college-style academic program that combines:

 

  • Instruction in the central classroom under teacher direction on INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS

  • Reinforcement and independent study under the direction of a parent in STUDY HALL

 

In this model, parents and teachers work in close partnership to support each student’s learning.
Teachers are responsible for delivering instruction, and assessing student progress. Parents support
learning by reinforcing concepts, providing additional practice, and supervising study hall time. This
support positions parents to build into their children spiritual truths, morals, character qualities and
relationships that reflect their biblical convictions, and gives back the gift of time spent together during
the school week.

Instruction occurs in all subject areas under the leadership of professional classroom teachers. The teacher is responsible for introducing all new content, providing reinforcement activities for study hall, and providing regular feedback to both the student and parents concerning the student’s progress. The teacher is also available during designated office hours to assist families on study hall days.

STUDY HALL (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday Mornings)

Students attend study hall with a parent where they will reinforce concepts, practice skills, and complete assignments. In the early years, parents act more like co-teachers, offering hands-on guidance and helping their child navigate daily learning tasks. As students mature, parents gradually step back into more of a coaching role. Students in high school may attend study hall independently.  Kindergarten students are not required to attend study hall. These study hall periods are staffed by volunteer teachers (see the Family Involvement section for more information).

Part-Time Students

Core Subjects

Families who prefer to homeschool but would like additional support in a particular subject area have the option to enrol their student in individual core subject classes (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies). Students who choose this option are not required to attend Study Hall in person, but are expected to attend classes consistently on Tuesdays and Thursdays and complete all assigned reinforcement work. Those enrolled in core subjects will receive assessments and feedback that families can use as part of their homeschool reporting.

Supplemental Program

Electives

Homeschooling families are invited to enrol their children in all non-core subjects including Physical Education, Christian Studies, Arts Education, and Electives.

 

These classes will run in 9-week blocks, allowing families flexibility to choose programming that fits their interests and schedules. Some of these courses will run Tuesday/Thursdays and others Wednesday afternoons. Many of these classes are taught by guest teachers. Students in these courses will receive feedback, but are not assessed or assigned grades.

In addition to supplemental courses, enrolled homeschooling families are also welcome to participate in field trips, extracurricular activities, and other HHCA community events.

 

Families who choose this option remain under homeschool legislation. They remain responsible for all core instruction and are required to report to Manitoba Education.

NOTE: Registration for supplemental and part time students is required at least 2 WEEKS prior to the start of each semester or block and adherence to all of our school policies and procedures is required. This includes regular attendance during the duration of the block. A registration package will be sent out in July/August once the schedule is finalized.
